Rachel Garcia, born on Oct. 24, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas,
joined her son in heaven on May 19, 2016, at the age of 62.
She was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her death. Rachel and her parents and siblings lived in the Mission District of San
Francisco, Calif. from age 3 through her sophomore year at Mission High School. The family returned to San Antonio in 1970 and lived on the southside, where she then enrolled at Harlandale High School. She briefly lived in Georgia and Killeen, Texas with her first husband and her two oldest children. She later remarried and had four other children, all born in San Antonio. She Iived on the southwest side, and most recently in far west San Antonio. Rachel worked full time and provided for her family for most of her adult life until she suffered a stroke in 2007. Her strength, grandchildren, and family support helped her overcome this and other personal events in her life. Rachel is preceeded in death by her son, Raul, in 2013, her brother, David, in 2011, and her parents, Raul and Concepcion (Concha), in 1983 and 1994, respectively. She is survived by her husband Raul Reyes, daughters Melissa and Jennifer, and sons Daniel, Robert, and Rafael. She also has 10 grandchildren that were the joy of her life. She is also survived by her brothers Roy Jr., Richard, Michael, and Matthew Timothy, and a sister, Irma Irene, as well as many extended family members and friends.
A Catholic Rosary will be held on Friday, May 27 at 7pm at the
San Antonio Mortuary, 703 Palo Alto Rd. Visitation begins at
4:30pm. The funeral will be held on Saturday May 28, starting with the final visitation from 8 to 9:15am. Mass will follow at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 236 E Petaluma Blvd. at 10am. Rachel will be laid to rest at San Jose Burial Park after Mass.
