When I am gone release me, let me go


I have so many things to see and do.


You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears


Be happy that we had so many beautiful years.


I gave to you my love. You can only guess


How much you gave to me in happiness.


I thank you for the love you each have shown.


But now it's time I traveled on alone.


You Grieve for me a while if grieve you must.


Then let your Grief be comforted by Trust.


It's only a while that we must part,


To bless the memories within your heart.


I won't be far away, for life goes on.


So if you need me call and I will come,


Though you can"t see or touch me, I'll be near.


And if you listen with your heart,


You'll hear all my love around you soft and clear.


And then when you must come this way alone.


I'll greet you with a smile and say . . .

Maria Antonia Castillo Alvarez quietly passed away at home July 16, 2025 at the age of 91.

Maria was born in Charlotte TX on July 5, 1934 to Santiago B. Castillo and Maria De Jesus Gonzales Castillo.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers,

Frank Gonzales, Cayetano Zamora, Santiago Castillo Jr., Felix Castillo and sister, Herminia Gonzalez.

Maria is survived by her children,

Lorenzo R. Alvarez (Isabel), Loretta A. Forrest (Steve), Roger C. Alvarez, Steve C. Alvarez,

and Frances A. Rodriguez (Joe),

as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Maria was raised in Charlotte TX where she attended high school until her sophomore year.

She then went to live in San Antonio with family, where she worked at a bakery and various retail stores throughout her life.

She eventually retired as a Pharmacy Technician at the former Nix Hospital.

Prior to retirement, Maria worked multiple jobs to provide for her family of five children. She obtained her GED, and attended nursing school. Although she did not complete her nursing certification, she devoted her time to caring for her elderly parents and other family members while continuing to work in the retail industry.

After retirement, Maria remained active by working as a caregiver for the infirmed and elderly.

She also took pride in helping raise several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maria raised her family at St. Philips of Jesus Catholic Church and was a longstanding member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church until her passing.

Her faith was a source of strength  and comfort throughout her life.

She was a loving, independent and selfless person, helping anyone in need.

Maria will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
