How much you gave to me in happiness.


I thank you for the love you each have shown.


But now it's time I traveled on alone.


You Grieve for me a while if grieve you must.


Then let your Grief be comforted by Trust.


It's only a while that we must part,


To bless the memories within your heart.


I won't be far away, for life goes on.


So if you need me call and I will come,


Though you can"t see or touch me, I'll be near.


And if you listen with your heart,


You'll hear all my love around you soft and clear.


And then when you must come this way alone.

Debra Kaye Contreras, of Poteet, Texas,

passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025 , at the age of 69. She was born on May 17, 1955 , in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Debra was preceded in death by her beloved soulmate, Alejandro "Alex" Contreras . She is survived by her loving children: Jason Contreras, Sarah Contreras, Cody Contreras and his wife, Crystal Contreras . She was a cherished grandmother to Renoa, Zander, and Kaiya Contreras. Debra is also survived by her mother, Pauline Carlton ; her brothers, Rick Carlton; his wife Sharon and children, David Carlton and his children; and her sisters, Carol Reed; husband Bill and her children , and Kimberly Carlton Nobel; husband Edward and her children.

Debra had a vibrant and free-spirited personality, known for her larger than life sense of humor and her persistent determination in achieving her goals. She was deeply devoted to her family and cherished spending time with them, especially during camping trips to the family property in Uvalde, Texas. Debra had a variety of loved hobbies, including the intricate art of crocheting and nurturing the beauty of her garden. She also found great joy in volunteering at her children's schools and various community events.

For many years, Debra generously volunteered her time at Somerset High School, where her dedication and warm spirit led to her being hired as the athletic secretary. In this role, known affectionately as "Mrs. C" to many students, she developed a passion for supporting and mentoring less fortunate students. She took them under her wing, offering encouragement and driving them to strive for a brighter future. Debra's impact on the lives of these students was profound, and she was loved by all who had the pleasure of crossing her path.

Debra's vibrant spirit, her generous heart, and her unwavering dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
